Leading employees into the future: Training in the virtual world

New Work can develop into a workplace model of the future. Virtual reality programs can be used to introduce employees to collaborative work. Currently VR is mostly used for gaming (read more) and porn (read more).

Digitisation is not only changing the possible uses of machines and IT systems, but also the design of workplaces and the integration of employees into corporate structures. New work and collaborative working are the appropriate keywords.

But entrepreneurs, even in creatively or technologically driven environments, cannot simply impose New Work as a model from above, but must carefully implement this concept in the sense of collaborative work. It is now common sense that targeted training and coaching programs can make employees better and companies more successful – even when reorganizing workplace design. The problem with this is that many companies shy away from these programs for resource reasons, because in addition to the costs for the trainer, the loss of working hours of the employees and travel expenses are added to the costs, especially in decentralized companies.

The solution to this problem is called virtual reality

This is new work and collaborative work in its purest form, because trainings in which employees come together at different locations can be conducted independently of time and space. In other words: a high level of dynamism is created in virtual space, a feeling of togetherness is created in the team and a new dimension of collaboration is opened up. Especially distributed teams can cooperate and develop each other much more easily in this way, even away from classic management structures that rely on “frontal teaching” in the meeting room.

However, decision makers should make sure that they only use solutions that they really understand.

Such concepts are particularly well received by companies that want to integrate Generation Z employees. These employees have a strong affinity for technology and are looking for innovative ideas that are part of their working environment. These employees can be retained in the long term through virtual reality and similar solutions.
